Unable to open device

Hi All,

A bit new here to Linux driver development so any help concerning this issue I am having would be greatly appreciated.

Im trying to open up a device I created and which resides in /dev. The device is called vision1. Actually, I have 4 devices in the /dev directory(vision1, vision2, vision3, vision4).

Im trying to do a cat /dev/vision1 and I keep getting back a message which says Unable to open device. Since they have been created and I see them in the /dev directory Im confused as to why I cannot open them. I do not get a permission denied message so I dont think it has to do with the attributes of the file not being set for root.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
